Drumroll, please! It's our pleasure to introduce our team's latest addition Corina Schmid. With the end of her General Management bachelor degree course approaching rapidly Corina will join as trainee to offer a practical outlet for her studies.
When not helping Dania with looking after the operational part of the Lab, Corina enjoys snowboarding and expanding her vast collection of shoes.
Welcome to the team and all the best for your graduation.
One Swiss Februar from Our Swiss Life on Vimeo.
Team Texas has been in Zurich the past three weeks, hangin' with our better half. This time I thought it would be fun to shoot some video of our stay and toss it together will a little Willie Nelson number. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do our time in Switzerland.

If you were to draw a Venn diagram of a web veteran, a cosmopolitan and an adventurer the intersection of these three circles would represent our new team member, Dagmar Muth.
Our 2012 Amazee Labs Christmas Cards are in the mail, perhaps even a few delivered by now. Inspired, in part, by a card designed to let the sender compose a greeting for any occasion (left), our version allows us to say, "Happy Holidays," in a number of ways (right). The beauty in the concept is that with just one design we are able to personalize every card in two ways. First, each recipient is greeted with a message tailor-made to suit our relationship and second, each card is hand-crafted by an Amazee Labs team member.

We came up with four greetings:
Perhaps the toughest part of the execution was arranging the words such that each greeting read correctly when highlighted, especially considering many words were shared.

Printing, tracing, and scanning the penmanship added to the personalized feel.

Two photos from a Gstaad-bound train ride proved perfect for the desired look and feel.

The words and imagery came together with some creative license to complete the printed card.

Fresh off the press, the Amazee Labs team passed the pen to finish off over 100 cards.

That's about 25 cards per greeting.

And we couldn't be happier with the finished product.

Happy Holidays from Amazee Labs!

Once a year our team gets together for a special night, the Christmas dinner. At this point let me say, we missed you deeply Kathryn, Andrew, Danny and Alex. It took place in Zermatt, at least it felt that way. In reality we dined right in front of Zurich airport, at the cosy Baracca Zermatt. After a nice platter of dried Swiss meat we enjoyed our Fondue and with it a great evening.
Let the pictures speak. Find more pictures on our dedicated image set on flickr.

On Saturday our close-knit team got a big step closer. At 6 pm Andrew and Kathryn said "Yes" in San Antonio, Texas. Michael and myself had the honor to represent the team in a romantic and tearful wedding ceremony at the Gardens at West Green. Andrew and Kathryn McClintock - the Amazee team wishes you a marriage full of eternal love and happiness.

Everybody tries to live a healthy life and be more active, but usually we find better things to do: go out with friends, work or just enjoy a glass of wine and a movie at home. Of course the guilty conscience is there, but it is easily suppressed. This is the problem Nike attempts to solve with the FuelBand.
The FuelBand is a small device in the form of a bracelet, which measures your body's movement and awards you Fuel points based on your activity level. You set your own daily goal. Guess what happens in the evening when you realize you're 500 fuel points off your target? You find yourself taking the stairs or going out for a walk. Welcome to your gamified life! It might sounds silly, but it really works and it's cool!
Because gamification works even better when competing in a team, every team member at Amazee Labs has a FuelBand. To make it even more fun, our daily stats are displayed on our team page! So everyone can see who was most active in the past week. Unfortunately Nike doesn't provide an API for the Fuel points yet, but this didn't stop us from finding a way to show the data on our website.
How we got it working
We built a small scraper to grab the daily statistics about fuel points, distance, steps, calories and activity time. Luckily the new Nike+ website is heavily based on JavaScript. While analyzing the profile page, we realized there's a JavaScript object called "window.np.secondMostRecentActivity." This object contains all the interesting information for a full day's worth of activity. It was easy to parse this information in PHP, save it in a database and display on the website.
Because we believe in open source, you can download our solution from GitHub!
Nike has announced they will provide an API in the future but nothing's happened yet, so let's hope this initiative brings them to publish something in the near future.
Come on Nike, just do it, so we can make it count and find our greatness!
Last week nearly 2,000 lovers of Drupal descended on Munich, Germany for Drupalcon Europe 2012. From keynotes and code sprints to sponsor booths and beer gardens, the Amazee Labs team had the four-day event covered from every angle. What follows is a cinemagraphic look back at our time in Munich. We'll see you all next year, in Prague!

Our new Headquarters
5Diligent followers of our social media activities will have noticed that we moved out of Technopark. The meticulous planned conversion of the location, it used to be a Restaurant, went to plan and we are pleased to share some impressions of our new home at Förrlibuckstrasse 30.
